Aran Weight Yarns
Aran yarn, which is also known as medium weight or worsted yarn is the baby bear to our Goldilocks. It's not too thick and not too thin making it just right for a huge range of projects.
It is easy to handle for both crochet and knitting and works up on 4.5mm to 5.5mm needles and hooks (US 7 to 9). In the yarn weight family it is a 4, right in the middle between super light and super chunky. It is also a hugely popular choice for blankets, which is why it can sometimes be referred to as afghan yarn. Always check the ball band to be sure, but aran weight yarn usually gives 4 to 5 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch.
One of the best things about aran yarn is that it works up quickly as it uses slightly bigger needles and hooks but can still create a lightweight and delicate fabric with great stitch definition. It is a fantastic 'all-purpose' yarn for a huge range of projects from garments and accessories to blankets, homeware and toys. It is comforting, warm and easy to knit with, you really need some of this in your stash! We love it for jumpers and cardigans especially, as this yarn lets you go from autumn through to winter and out into spring again. A great addition to any wardrobe and it comes in a huge variety of fantastic colours so you can match it to any style.
Being so versatile, this yarn can skate gracefully between cosy and casual or sumptuously glam. Our range of Boho Spirit by Cygnet, with its iridescent shine and beautiful range of solid or variegated colours is a fantastic example of a premium quality day-to-night yarn. Perfect for shawls, scarves or cardigans that will keep you warm and shimmery.
