Cotton Yarn - Inspiration and Ideas for Crochet and Knitting Projects

Summer is the perfect time to bring out those cotton yarns - they are soft, breathable and can wick moisture away from the body. Here at Secret Yarn Stash you are spoilt for choice when it comes to cotton based yarns, with a variety of options in varying weights and colours (the colours are nearly endless!)

Whether you are looking to whip up some cute amigurumi projects, or you are wanting to make some light-weight clothing, these patterns can all be made using our cotton based yarns. There's something for everyone, from the beginner crochetier, to the experienced knitter.

We have chosen some of our favourite cotton based yarns to highlight here, but there are so many others on the website, so feel free to take a look and let us know if you need any help deciding what would work best! And as always most of the patterns are free or have a very small cost - enjoy!

~ Stylecraft Naturals Bamboo and Cotton DK Yarn ~

This yarn is Double Knit and is 60% bamboo and 40% cotton (Hook and Needle size 4mm)

This adorable little dinosaur would make a lovely baby gift and there are so many lovely colours to choose from in the Stylecraft Naturals range!

Brighten up any room with this crocheted rainbow hanger with sun and clouds - this is an easy to intermediate pattern as the clouds can be a little tricky.

If you've never made your own face scrubs, then why not try these out - it's a really simple pattern and a great eco friendly make that you could gift to friends too.

This crop top is a quick knit for the experts out there - You could make a different colour for every day of the week!

YarnArt Jeans Cotton ~

Jeans cotton is Double Knit and is 55% cotton and 45% acrylic (Hook 2.5-5mm and Needle size 3.5mm)

These cute little cotton boats are stackable and make for a fun little addition to any little one's bath time. You'll need to know how to make a magic loop for this one.

These reversible octopus toys are all the rage at the moment, so if you have a little person in your life, I am sure they would LOVE one of these! You could even make it in their favourite colour and have fun with the expressions.

Among Us characters are another current trend that has been beautifully replicated here in crochet! There are more character styles on Fibita's Ravelry account if you want to make a full set!

Everyone needs a llama in their life, right?! This cute llama even comes with it's own blanket! It looks like this was intended as a Christmas gift - so maybe this is when you start you Christmas projects?

And when you can't get your hands on the real thing, these crochet ice creams come a close second (and they're animals too!)

YarnArt Creative Cotton Yarn ~

Creative Cotton is Aran and is 100% cotton (Needle size 5mm and hooks size 6mm)

Keep your sunglasses from getting scratched (and maybe save yourself losing them so often) with this cute little pouch pattern.

These stunning potholders might just outshine your plants! There are extra picture directions with the pattern too if you get stuck.

YarnArt Jeans Plus Cotton ~

Jeans Plus is Aran and is 55% Cotton and 45% Acrylic (Needle size 5mm and hooks size 5-8mm)

Big enough to fit your purse and keys in, this over-the-shoulder bag is the perfect accessory for the summer!

Crochet bags are quite popular at the moment and so we've got a few to share including this Granny Circle bag, which can be worked up pretty quickly.

This bag is made up of granny squares but we love it for it's unique handle which finishes the bag off beautifully!

This is another fun project (this is not a free pattern but will support a Ukrainian designer) It has plenty of detail that really makes this quirky gnome come to life!

Another Ukrainian pattern, this time a sunflower for those not so sunny summer days! This cute little amigurumi pattern is sure to brighten anyone's day!

YarnArt Baby Cotton ~

This yarn is 4ply fingering and is 50% cotton and 50% acrylic (Hook and Needle size 3mm)

There is a small cost for this pattern, but it is very cute and would be lovely for a small baby. You could make a number of colours with this but we do love the Peter Rabbit inspired colours used here!

This doll is amazing for a free pattern, and there's lots more on the website for you to peruse.

This is a fun zebra pattern, but if you want to make it rainbow coloured we won't tell - either way we think it's fab!

~ Cygnet 100% Pure Cotton DK ~

This yarn is Double Knit and is 100% cotton (Hook and Needle size 4mm)

This blanket is lightweight and made up of lots of hexagons - the fun part comes when you decide what order to arrange them in (There is a suggested layout if you are looking to replicate exactly)

This half and half cardigan would make a lovely baby present - not too thick, but a lovely extra layer for baby.

You should checkout all the examples of these dream catchers on the Ravelry link as there are so many to inspire you! You can really have fun with this one and get super creative!

This simple cotton tee is perfect for summer as it is light-weight and breathable and is for the knitters amongst you.

This cushion is really fun and bright, and the pom poms are the perfect finishing touch on this one. You'll find all the details for this pattern on the Cygnet page.

And just one more bag - because we love them! This Bucket bag would be great for a day at the beach or just for a trip into town - it has a generous handle and a lovely bow!
