Yarn of the Month - YarnArt Baby Cotton - 4ply Acrylic and Cotton Mix

March is well and truly here, and with it a brand new Yarn of the Month!

This Month we are all about the new YarnArt Baby Cotton, which is an acrylic and cotton mix yarn that has just landed at the Secret Yarn Stash shop!

This gorgeous lightweight yarn is perfect for the warmer months ahead and is an absolute pleasure to work with ☀

Here's what you need to know about this Baby Cotton from YarnArt:

Why We Love This Yarn

This is a fantastic choice for amigurumi on its own, but with a little fancy fingerwork (i.e. change of hook or needle size, or slight adjustment of tension) it can be used together with yarns in the YarnArt Jeans, Jeans Crazy and Jeans Tropical ranges to open up the possibilities for even more fabulous colour combos! (And you won't exactly be short of options when it comes to colour with this range!)

As you might imagine for a yarn suitable for baby makes, it is also gloriously soft on the skin and is a joy to work up, whatever your choice of yarncraft. There's so much we love about this one!

We usually strive to bring you some of the best free patterns here at Secret Yarn Stash, however this month we are featuring quite a few paid patterns in support of some fabulous Ukrainian Designers!

Amigurumi Toy Patterns

These Amigurumi patterns are just adorable, and would all work lovely with YarnArt's Baby Cotton.

French Bulldog - Anna Sytnikova

This pattern is awesome, and if you check out the link you'll find a few more pictures of different colour bulldogs (if you know someone with a bulldog, you could probably make a good look alike with this pattern!)

Owl Toy - Viktoriia Petakh

This cute little owl makes a lovely toy (we love the grey on this owl and there are so many shades in the YarnArt Baby Cotton collection to choose from, including Dove Grey, Natural and Ecru)

Amigurumi Fox - Tatiana Kucherovska

This cute little fox comes complete with a jumper, giving it some real character! Tatiana has a whole Etsy shop full of really cute patterns that is definitely worth taking a look at!

Mushroom Toys - Viktoriia Petakh

These mushroom toys would be a great baby toy (maybe make into a baby rattle?) or just a great home decor item! If you're a beginner with crochet, this is an easy pattern and a great way into the world of amigurumi.

Weather Play Set - Kirichenko Natalia

This would make such a lovely gift set for a newborn baby or a young toddler to play with. There are lots of detailed instructions with this pattern, and lots of step by step pictures so that beginners can have a go at this too!

All of the above patterns can be found on Ravelry (click the titles) and are all from Ukrainian designers, so you would be supporting them in a small way with every purchase made.

Pretty but Practical Patterns (stuff you can wear!)

This is a collection of patterns by the very talented Kate Veselunka, ranging from hats and bags, to shawls.

'Tree of Peony' Slouchy Crochet HatKate Veselunka

This cute hat is intricately detailed and would make a lovely gift for someone. As well as a written pattern, you'll also find a graph pattern along with explanation for the more difficult stitches. (She also has another fabulous hat pattern not pictured above that you can find HERE)

'Blossom' Crochet Scarf Kate Veselunka

We love how this scarf is made up of SO many colours - this is a really cheerful scarf (check out the link to see a close up!) If you prefer to crochet along to a video then you can do that with this pattern.

'Diez' Crochet ShawlKate Veselunka

This pattern actually uses YarnArt Flowers for its gorgeous colour change, but if you wanted a block colour then this is a fabulous pattern for YarnArt Baby Cotton; it is beautifully delicate and perfect for spring!

'White Cloud' Beach BagKate Veselunka

It won't be long before we're off to the beach again wink and you'll need yourself a handy beach bag! This would look lovely in just about any colour, but we think the spearmint, or the sky blue have great beach vibes!

YarnArt Baby Cotton Free Patterns

Our final roundup of patterns are all free, and range from fun and quirky, to pretty and practical!

Bobble Tassel Bunting The Lemon Hound

This bunting is pure delight! Whether you have an upcoming party, or just want to spruce up your home or garden - you'll want this pattern!

Tiny Toadstools - Moji Moji Design

These toadstools are adorable and you can't really go wrong with just one stitch for this whole pattern. It doesn't matter what colour you make these in, they'll look fab whatever!

The Camilla BagFiona Hawke

This bag pattern has it all, including a tab for hanging it on the self-checkout! It's a great all round mesh-stich shopping bag with good expansion for all your purchases.

Sakura Knot BagRamalakshmi Pasumarthy

This bag is inspired by cherry blossoms, and is a great project bag with hands free comfort. The flower detail really makes this bag into something very pretty but practical.

Blooming Crochet Flowers - Annie Design Crochet

We love a good flower pattern, and this free one from Annie's Crochet is really lovely with the addition of leaves too. You'll find the entire pattern written out on the website with plenty of photos, so a great beginner project!

Barrel CactusNuria Álvarez

And finally - if you don't fancy a real cactus (I mean they are pretty spiky!) You can just make your own soft version... This pattern is available for free download on the Ravelry website, along with some other fellow plant patterns!

So there you have it, plenty of patterns to get you started on your YarnArt Baby cotton collection. Remember all of the paid patterns are form Ukrainian designers, so every purchase made will hopefully directly help someone in a small way.
